dc.description.abstract The purpose of this study was to examine the impact of parental involvement on students’ academic achievement at secondary school level in Rusizi district with the case of Gihundwe sector. A sample of 118 respondents was used in this study among whom administrative staff members and parents were sampled using purposive sampling, teachers were samples using stratified sampling and students were sampled by using simple random sampling technique. This study was intended to address three specific research objectives namely to: explore the school modalities through which parents are involved in supporting secondary school children academic development; investigate the contribution of parental involvement in children academic performance in secondary schools; and finally, examine the difference in academic performance between secondary school students who receive parental support from students who completely do not receive it. A Case study design was used to collect data from the respondents using questionnaires, interviews and documentary reviews that were administered to school committees’ chairpersons, parents and teachers and students. The sampling procedures used were: simple random sampling for students, purpose sampling for administrative staff and PTA committee members whereas teachers were sampled by using stratified random sampling. Both qualitative and quantitative approaches were used to tape respondents’ subjective views and simple percentages from the frequent responses for descriptive purposes. The Microsoft Excel en_US
